Summary
Tells the story of Susanna Alderdice, who was killed along with three of her children by Cheyenne captors at the Battle of Summit Springs in July, 1869, and of her 4-year old son, who was wounded then left for dead. It examines the strife between the Plains Indians and the outward expansion of the west, which moved too fast for the Indians to be able to adjust; hence the brutality and breaking of their 1867 treaty. Also, as revealed in information taken from the depredation claims, the settlers were victims of their own governmental laws. This edition contains an addendum of new information to append the original story
